Claude's context window and attention to detail in long documents is genuinely better. Feed it a 50-page codebase and it actually reads it.
GPT-4o degrades on very long contexts — loses track of earlier information.
Both are good. Claude is more literal — it does exactly what you ask. GPT-4o sometimes makes assumptions and fills in gaps. Depending on the task, either can be better.
Claude: More direct, will push back, admits uncertainty clearly. GPT-4o: More agreeable, smoother, sometimes over-confident.
For coding where you want accurate feedback: Claude's honesty is a feature.

For coding tasks: I reach for Claude first. For broad research and synthesis: They're about equal. For OpenAI ecosystem integration: GPT-4o wins on convenience.
Use both. The $20/month for each is justified if you're a professional developer — they're your most productive tool.
Don't be loyal to a model. Be loyal to good output.
